Santa Ana Transformation

We recently completed a renovation of a home in the Santa Ana district of Mérida. The original structure was built between 1950 and 1980 and due to its north-south orientation and limited windows, the interior of the house was very dark. The house also needed a better layout to suit a current lifestyle and a strategy to create stronger air flow and natural light.

The central area of the home was remodelled to create an open concept with optimized air flow and multiple skylights to give light and life to the kitchen and living area. Large double bi-fold doors also augment the breeze while providing views of the pool area and connecting the greenery of the garden to the interior. Rooms were added and extended at the rear to provide more living space, and a new pool integrated with a pergola for added shade and visual interest.

From dark enclosed cavern-like rooms, the interior now provides a delightful space of easy living with a natural ambiance. The exterior was once a heat bank of concrete and is now welcoming, peaceful and restful. The end result has truly been a transformation.
